Scheidt-Hohenberg Hot Kosher Meals Program

The Scheidt-Hohenberg  Hot Meals Program is a program of Memphis Jewish Federation. It is designed to serve our Jewish Seniors (aged 60+) kosher hot lunches. The meals are pre-prepared, and served at congregate meal sites at the MJCC and Plough Towers. In addition, Plough Towers makes deliveries to individual apartments for those residents who are unable to come to the dining room.

Since March 2002, the Wendy & Avron B. Fogelman Jewish Family Service has coordinated the delivery of meals to Jewish Seniors who are home-bound.

In partnership with MIFA, the hot meals program prepares, serves, and delivers an estimated 15,000 nutritious, kosher meals annually to community seniors who would otherwise go without.

Scheidt-Hohenberg Hot Meal Program at the Memphis Jewish Community Center

Every Monday through Friday at 11:30 am, Shelby County seniors who are at least 60 years old can enjoy a tasty, hot, kosher lunch in the senior dining room of the Memphis Jewish Community Center. The MJCC serves as an official MIFA congregate senior meal site.

These nutritious and well-balanced meals, consisting of beef, poultry or fish, a starch, a vegetable, wheat bread and dessert, are made possible by the Scheidt-Hohenberg Hot Meal Program of Memphis Jewish Federation. Beverages include iced tea, coffee, water and orange juice.

These daily lunches provide food, friendship and fellowship to Jewish seniors from across the Memphis Jewish community.

Meal reservations: Call 901.761.0810 by preceding morning before noon or sign up on the list located at the Member Services Desk. Meals Delivered to Seniors’ Homes Coordinated by the Wendy & Avron B. Fogelman Jewish Family Service

Jewish seniors, aged 60 or older, who are unable to prepare meals for themselves and who do not have assistance in the home to do so, are eligible to receive delicious, nutritious, kosher meals delivered directly to their homes.

Since 2002, Fogelman Jewish Family Service has coordinated the delivery of kosher frozen meals to Jewish clients in Memphis and its environs.  Servicing over 75 recipients, these well-balanced frozen meals which include a protein, starch, and a vegetable, are made possible by the Scheidt-Hohenberg Hot Meal Program of Memphis Jewish Federation.

“Friendly Visitor” volunteers deliver a 10-meal supply every two weeks to home-bound Jewish seniors who might otherwise go without a daily nutritious meal and who might not experience any regular socialization. Meals come in a microwaveable container requiring no preparation by the recipient.

Depending on the individual needs of the recipient, meals may be delivered on a short-term or long-term basis. Seniors recuperating from an illness or medical procedure may require meals for a limited period of time. Other seniors utilize them on a long term basis thus contributing to their ability to remain in their homes rather than in a long term care facility.
