B'nai Tzedek

Memphis B’nai Tzedek is a teen philanthropy program designed to engage teens from bar/bat mitzvah through high school graduation. At the time of his/her bar mitzvah, teens are invited to donate a portion of their gift money (suggested: $250) to start a philanthropic fund at the Jewish Foundation of Memphis. A sponsor matches this donation with an additional $250 and the fund is established in the teen’s name.  The fund can grow with interest earnings and additional donations.  Each year through the end of high school, the teen chooses a qualified charity (or charities) to which he or she will donate up to 20% of the fund’s balance.  In June of the teen’s graduation year, the B’nai Tzedek fund can continue as a permanent fund ($1,000 minimum) or it can be closed with the balance donated to the Student Cooperative Fund or other charities of the teen’s choosing.
